الملخص:The learning and teaching fellowship discussed in this report was designed to accelerate the momentum of Australian and New Colombo Plan (NCP) universities towards a more systematic method of developing discipline-specific, undergraduate, master’s and PhD student research mindsets through the use of the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework. By using the RSD framework as a common language across disciplines and cultural contexts, the intent was to enable students to graduate as communicative, problem solving critical thinkers who learn for life throughout employment. In order to maximise inclusivity, especially in regard to preferred terminology variances across disciplines, the parameters of the RSD framework were used to compose a more generalised version, the Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching (MELT). The fellowship also involved formation of RSD/MELT networks in three NCP universities new to the RSD, in Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam, and further development of core RSD user groups in each mainland Australian state, the ACT, Fiji and the USA, concluding that developing a research mindset is far more character-changing than learning the techniques of research, and aligns with and supports major purposes of education, including problem solving in mathematics and engineering, critical thinking in the humanities and evidence-based decision making in the Health Sciences and Business.
