Sumario:With increasing numbers of refugee background students with interrupted schooling entering the Australian education system this guide aims to strengthen educators' understanding of refugee background students' transition to tertiary education in order to promote a supporting learning environment and to maximize students' educational outcomes. The guide was created as a flexible tool to assist tertiary institutions support refugee background students transition from secondary schools to university. It contains some general information on the project and recommendations for universities wishing to improve transition pathways for refugee background students. Fact sheets are included on: Background information on the prior life experiences of refugee background students and the effects these experiences can have on their transition to university; Suggestions to develop more effective policy and policies of best practice within Australian tertiary institutions; Information on current existing pathways and programs; Suggestions for changes to school environment and education practice; Information on support/community links and working with agencies that support young refugee background student transitions.
