| Resumo: | Report of a project aimed at delivering a German language program to students at James Cook University and Newcastle University, from University of New England. Post-secondary students had previously tended to be teacher oriented rather than viewing themselves as active agents in the learning process. It became apparent that this particular cohort of students needed to be educated in strategies to direct their learning with the aim of becoming autonomous learners. The online program, Deutsch e-rklart (German e-xplained), was developed to address this challenge, and it provides not only the essential elements of an introductory language course, but also strategies to facilitate students' taking control of their learning.
