| Achoimre: | Academic standards statement for the discipline of science in Australian higher education. Overarching threshold learning outcomes (TLOs) were established for bachelor degrees in science, with examples of how these could be adapted for specific disciplinary areas such as chemistry and mathematics. The science standards statement is intended to offer a succinct description of the nature and extent of science, and to describe the threshold (or minimum) level of achievement that can be expected of an Australian bachelor level graduate in science. The statement is not prescriptive. Higher education providers are encouraged to design and deliver programs that reflect their niche by going beyond the five threshold learning outcomes or by requiring the learning outcomes be met at a higher standard in their own organisation. These standards were developed as part of a demonstration project funded by the Australian Government in 2010-11 and facilitated by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. Academic institutions and teachers, professional bodies, accreditation bodies, employers and graduates participated in the development of minimum threshold learning outcomes for the discipline.
