Riassunto:An action research approach was adopted to systematically collect evidence from end-of-semester exams, with the aim of subsequently improving the teaching of computer programming. As part of this process the project participants formulated ideas on where the problems lay for novice programmers, devised exam questions to test these ideas, collected and analysed the data from the end-of-semester exams, and then repeated the process. The academics involved in this research are from the discipline of information and communication technology.
